Appreciation post: The open house where a guy tried to buy my shoes
At a viewing in Vancouver last month, a man offered me $200 for my boots right in the living room... said they'd 'complete the vibe' of the place. Has anyone else had a totally wild interaction at a showing?

Wow, that's a new one. Honestly, you have to shut that down fast. I had a guy at a viewing try to negotiate for a floor lamp once. You just say, "This isn't the place for that," and walk to another room. It keeps things on track and avoids a weird vibe for other potential buyers. People get strange ideas when they're imagining their life in a new space.

Last year a couple asked if the dining set was included, like it was a hotel room. You're right, @the_shane, you have to cut that off right away or it gets weird fast. I just told them the sale was for the house only and moved on to talk about the roof.

Counterpoint: maybe that lamp or table being in the room is actually doing you a favor. People are trying to picture themselves living there, not just standing in an empty box. If someone gets attached to a piece of furniture it means the staging is working. You could just say "no, but I can put you in touch with the stager if you want the same look." Makes you look helpful instead of annoyed. Plus if they're already trying to add stuff to the deal they're probably serious buyers looking to close fast.
