Back in 2019 I had to choose between a fixer-upper in Hamilton or a condo in Burlington
My wife and I were looking at two places. One was this old house near Barton Street that needed new wiring, new plumbing, new everything basically. The other was a 2 bedroom condo near the GO station in Burlington for about the same price, $450,000. We went with the fixer-upper because we wanted a yard and thought we could do the work ourselves. Fast forward 4 years and we've sunk about $80,000 into it so far, mostly on structural stuff you can't even see. The basement still isn't finished and we ran out of money for the kitchen reno last year. Meanwhile our friends bought that Burlington condo and their value has gone up way more than ours has. Just wondering if anyone else picked the wrong side of this kind of choice.

we wanted a yard" is the part that gets me. You can plant tomatoes in a condo balcony box but you can't fix a leaking roof with good vibes.
