Found out my city's vacancy rate is under 1% and it hit different
Was looking up stats on CMHC's site last night for fun and saw that Vancouver has a 0.9% rental vacancy rate for 2024. I knew it was bad but seeing that number made me really sit back. No wonder every listing I call about has 20 people ahead of me in line. Anyone else find a stat that put things into perspective for them?

0.9%... that's not even a full percent, that's like... a rounding error in favor of landlords. I did a similar deep dive on our city stats a while back and saw we're at 1.1% and thought, well, that's practically the same as having zero. At this point, I'm convinced the only way to get a place is to show up to the viewing already holding a signed lease and a cashier's check... maybe even a firstborn child as a security deposit. Might as well start checking the dumpster behind the 7-Eleven for vacancies.
