I thought my buddy in Halifax was nuts for buying a 1970s bungalow with knob and tube wiring, but his reno budget came in under $40k and now it's worth triple.

Pull the panel cover off before you make an offer on those old houses. I bought a place that looked clean but the wiring was all spliced together with electrical tape behind the walls. @brookef73 hit it right about charm paying off, but only if the bones are solid. Saved myself a fortune by catching the bad stuff early and doing the rewiring room by room myself.

Honestly, my cousin did something similar with a tiny post-war house full of aluminum wiring. Took him two years of weekend work, but he replaced all the wiring himself and kept the original charm. He sold it last year for way more than anyone thought he could get.

Keeping the original charm is what really pays off in the end.
