Remember when a bungalow in Hamilton was under 300k? Feels like a lifetime ago.
I was looking at old listings from back in 2015, and I swear you could find decent detached homes in Hamilton's east end for around 280,000. Fast forward to last spring, and the same houses are pushing 700,000 or more. The shift really hit around 2017 when all those Toronto buyers started flooding in, looking for something cheaper. Now even fixer-uppers in St. Catharines are going for half a million, and it's wild to think I passed on a place there for 220k just eight years ago. Anyone else remember browsing MLS back then and actually finding affordable options?

Yeah those days are long gone unfortunately.

Forget the old days entirely, there are still plenty of niche places doing it right if you know where to look. My buddy runs a little shop downtown that still hand grinds their own burgers and they're packed every weekend. You just gotta dig a bit harder now than we used to.
