The day my hot water tank quit mid-shower in November

Last month I was standing in the shower, it's freezing cold out, and suddenly the water goes lukewarm then ice cold in about 30 seconds. I figured it was just a pilot light thing, but nope, the whole tank gave out. It was a 15 year old model that came with the house when I bought it back in 2017. I ended up calling three plumbers in my city, all quoted around $2,500 for a new tank install with permits. Ended up going with a rental through Reliance because I didn't have the cash upfront, which feels like a bandaid but whatever. Kinda wild how a house can be fine for years then something just breaks at the worst time. Anyone else have a major appliance fail on them out of nowhere?

Man, that's rough timing. I've had a water heater go out in December before and it's honestly one of the worst surprises a house can throw at you.
