Did anyone else ride 2 seasons before ditching the toe straps?

I swore by flat pedals with toe straps for like 14 months, then hit a wet boardwalk in Halifax and almost ate it. Now I'm on clipless and wondering if I was just stubborn or if straps actually have a place for city riding. Which side are you on?

Stubborn" is putting it nicely, I rode straps through a whole Winnipeg winter like I was daring the ice to end me lol. Almost went over the bars on a frosty crosswalk and somehow still convinced myself it was "skill building." That wet boardwalk moment sounds brutal though, glad you're alive. Honestly I think straps have a place if your whole ride is under 10km and dry pavement, but the second you hit rain or gravel it's just a gamble with your teeth. I'm clipless now and the only thing I miss is how easy straps were to step into with regular shoes, but I also don't miss the panic of my foot slipping mid-turn.
