Finally picked the gravel bike over a road bike for my commute in Calgary
After 3 months of going back and forth I grabbed a used Kona Rove last week and its way better on those cracked paths along the Bow River. Anyone else find gravel bikes just eat up potholes way easier than skinny tires?

Drove a road bike for years and thought gravel bikes were just for people who liked going slow on purpose. Picked up a used Raleigh this spring for the potholes near my place and honestly its night and day. The wider tires feel way more stable when the pavement gets chewed up and I dont have to dodge every crack on the path.

Man I was exactly the same way, I figured gravel bikes were just a fad for people who wanted to look cool riding dirt paths. But last year I borrowed a friend's bike on a group ride through some beat up country roads and it clicked for me. The fact that I could just roll over stuff without white-knuckling the bars was a total game changer. Now I get why folks like them even for mostly pavement if the roads around them are trash.
