I finally got my bike out for the first ride of the season up in Muskoka last weekend.

I stopped for gas and this older guy on a vintage Harley looked at my bike and said, 'You know, the best roads up here aren't on any map, they're the ones you find when you're a little bit lost.' We ended up talking for twenty minutes and he drew me a rough map on a napkin. Has anyone else had a stranger point you toward a great hidden route?

Yeah, that's the real stuff right there. It's like the best local knowledge never makes it online, it gets passed person to person. I've found more amazing fishing spots and backroad diners from random chats at gas stations than I ever have from an app. Makes you wonder what else we're missing by just following a screen.

I read this article last year about how GPS made us lose those random finds. It said like 70% of people never deviate from the mapped route anymore. I totally get what paul_stone29 means about the person to person thing. My uncle found this perfect swimming hole because some guy at a hardware store drew him a map on a paper bag. Those little scribbled directions just feel more real, you know? Like someone is trusting you with a secret spot.
