I finally stopped babying my brake pads after a mechanic in Regina set me straight

Last fall a guy named Dave at a shop on Albert Street told me my front pads had 40% life left but I kept replacing them early because the squeal drove me nuts. He said the noise was just surface rust and to ride it out, and sure enough after 200 km it went quiet. Anyone else get told to ignore a sound that turns out to be harmless?

The "ride it out" advice is solid, but it points to something bigger. We're all so used to fixing things the second they act up that we forget some stuff just needs time to settle. Same thing happens with creaky floorboards or a weird hum from the fridge, half the time it's nothing.
