My uncle swore by WD-40 for bike chains, ruined my gears in under a week
My uncle who rode in the 80s told me WD-40 was all you needed for a bike chain. I figured he knew his stuff since he biked across Canada back then. I sprayed it on my new hybrid bike and within 6 rides the chain was squeaking like crazy. Took it to my local shop on King Street and the mechanic said the WD-40 stripped all the factory grease out. Cost me $45 for a new chain and a lesson in proper lube. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from an older rider about maintenance?
