Rant: Found some numbers that changed my mind about riding in the rain

Looked up accident stats on the Transport Canada site and saw that only 8% of bike crashes happen in wet conditions. Everyone in this group acts like rain is a death sentence but the data says dry roads are way more dangerous. Anyone else feel like we overhype the rain thing?

Started riding with proper rain gear and good tires, totally changed how I feel about wet roads. Traction is way better than most people think if you're smooth on the controls.

I was totally in the same boat as you @emmam32 until about two years ago when I rode home in a downpour on my old Sportster. I had cheap tires and a poncho that flapped like crazy. Almost slid going around a roundabout and it scared me straight. Switched to Michelin Road 5s and a real rain jacket and now I actually look forward to wet roads a little. It's crazy how much smoother the bike feels when you trust the rubber.
