That guy at the Moto Canada meetup was right about heated grips

Back in October some dude at the Tim Hortons meetup in Mississauga told me to spend the extra $50 on the Oxford heated grips instead of the cheap Amazon ones. I ignored him and now my left grip stopped working after 3 rides. Has anyone else had the cheap ones die on them mid-winter?

The same thing happened to me last winter with those cheap Amazon heated grips. I went through two pairs before I gave up and switched to the Oxfords from a local shop in Toronto. The wiring on the cheap ones is just too thin, it can't handle the cold and vibrations on a bike. Proper heated grips are worth the extra cost, especially if you ride through the real cold months.

Blew through three sets of those cheap ones myself before I wised up. They all died the same way too, just stopped getting hot one day and then the plastic started cracking around the throttle. You know what really got me though, is that I actually liked how they felt for about a week before everything went wrong. The Oxfords are solid but I ended up going with a set of Hot Grips from a guy who builds them out of his garage in Sudbury. They look kinda homemade but they've been working for two winters now with no problems at all. Sometimes the random small builders know their stuff better than the big companies because they actually ride in the same weather you do.
