Took my old KLR650 through some logging roads near Kenora last weekend and the front end just washed out in a patch of gravel I didn't see.

Managed to keep it mostly upright but it was a real puckering moment that reminded me to never get lazy scanning the trail ahead. Anyone else have a close call that made you change up your riding habits?

My old DR650 did that exact thing on a forest service road near Chelan. It was a totally flat, dry section that looked fine until the front tire just vanished into a hidden sand pit. That was five years ago and I still scan the ground like a hawk now, looking for any color change or texture difference. It taught me that even a familiar road can change with weather or traffic. I probably look a bit paranoid staring at the dirt so much, but it beats picking up a bike.

Same thing happened to me in Utah, never trust a smooth patch.
