Vent: Found out my favorite riding gloves had asbestos after 10 years

I was cleaning out my gear locker last Tuesday and stumbled on an old pair of gloves I'd been using since 2014. Out of curiosity I looked up the brand on a vintage gear forum and found a thread from 2016 talking about how they used asbestos in the heat shielding. I still can't believe I rode with those for nearly a decade without knowing. Anyone else ever find out their old gear had something dangerous in it?

Man those old forums can be a real trip down a sketchy memory lane. I found out my first helmet from 2009 had some kind of foam that degraded into basically dust over time. Good times. Makes you wonder what other kinds of surprises are hidden in our old gear, like a fun little game of "is this going to give me cancer or just a rash?" Hope your lungs are okay, man. At least the gloves were probably real good at keeping your hands warm while you were slowly breathing in evil fibers.

Oh totally, "is this going to give me cancer or just a rash" is basically the motto of anyone who bought budget gear back then. @the_spencer I swear I found a pair of gloves from that era in my garage last year and the inner liner had turned into this weird sticky goo situation. Like something from a sci fi movie where the organism is slowly digesting your hand. At least the foam dust might be less directly gross than the mystery sludge.
