Warning: wasted $180 on a cheap motorcycle GPS mount that broke in 2 weeks

I bought a knock-off GPS mount off Amazon for my KLR 650 because I didn't want to spend $80 on the legit RAM mount. It looked fine in the box and even held my phone for a few short rides around Edmonton. But on day 14, I hit a small pothole on the Anthony Henday and the whole thing snapped clean off. My phone flew into the ditch and the screen cracked. I ended up paying $200 to replace the phone anyway, plus the $30 for the real RAM mount I should have bought first. Has anyone else here lost gear to cheap mounts on their bike?

Man, that stinks. I had almost the exact same thing happen with a cheap mount for my V-Strom. I went with a Quad Lock after that and it's been solid for two years now, even on gravel roads. The phone case is a little bulky but I'm not worried about losing my phone anymore. Made sure to drill and loctite the mount point too so nothing wiggles loose. Sometimes you just gotta pay a bit more to not have your stuff wrecked.
