Talking to a restoration shop made me rethink my whole storage approach

I was at a shop in Omaha last week dropping off parts and the owner started talking about how they store their customer cars long term. He said they never use those cheap portable carports because the UV still gets through and the humidity gets trapped underneath. He told me they had a 1967 Mustang that got surface rust on the hood after just 4 months under one of those. That conversation hit different because I have two project cars under a tarp right now and I never considered moisture getting stuck under there. Has anyone else had issues with tarps or portable shelters causing more problems than they solved?

Ouch, that stings. Did you check for rust under your tarp yet?

and honestly @taylor_mitchell80 that rust spreads fast once it starts, so you gotta catch it before it eats through the whole tarp.
