The day I found mold behind the battery box in my stored Camaro
I keep my '87 Camaro in a rented unit off I-75 near Knoxville. For 5 years I thought popping the hood and running it once a month was enough. Last week I pulled the battery tray to clean corrosion and found green mold spread across the firewall. The moisture was coming from the vents I left cracked open for airflow. Looked fine from the outside but the carpet under the dash was damp too. Anyone else found hidden mildew spots in a long term storage setup that you thought was solid?

Man, been there. I had a similar thing happen with my old Firebird and it drove me nuts. What finally worked for me was pulling the carpet back and putting those little moisture absorber tubs in the footwells, plus I stopped leaving the vents cracked and instead just opened the doors for an hour on dry days once a month. I also stuck a cheap hygrometer in there so I could actually see the humidity instead of guessing. Turns out the vents were letting in more damp air than they were letting out. Check under your seats too, the foam holds water forever.
