The day I found mold behind the battery box in my stored Camaro

I keep my '87 Camaro in a rented unit off I-75 near Knoxville. For 5 years I thought popping the hood and running it once a month was enough. Last week I pulled the battery tray to clean corrosion and found green mold spread across the firewall. The moisture was coming from the vents I left cracked open for airflow. Looked fine from the outside but the carpet under the dash was damp too. Anyone else found hidden mildew spots in a long term storage setup that you thought was solid?
