My old supervisor swore handwritten notes would matter someday

Back in 2013 at a call center in Tulsa, my supervisor told me to jot down every customer's issue on paper, and I thought it was a waste, but now those notes helped me spot a pattern in billing errors that got me a promotion last month, anyone else ever get advice that felt ancient but worked out?
