Why does everyone push for a 5-year plan when most of us can't predict next month?
I keep hearing career coaches say you need a 5-year plan, but after switching fields twice in 3 years and seeing half my coworkers get laid off, I think that advice is outdated. Has anyone actually stuck to a long-term plan without their industry changing first?

Honestly I think the five year plan thing is mostly for people in stable careers or careers where there's a clear path. For the rest of us it's just a way to feel like we're in control when we really aren't.

Yeah definitely feels more like a rough direction than a real plan at this point.
