Accent wall measurement fail, took me 3 hours to fix a 20 minute job

I was installing shiplap on an accent wall and thought I had the spacing dialed in. Turns out I forgot to account for the corner not being square, so the last board was 2 inches short. Had to pull 9 boards off, re-cut the tongues, and shim the first row before it lined up. Anyone else trust a wall is square just because it looks straight from across the room?

Nine times out of ten the wall is square enough and you just got unlucky with a weird corner. I've put up a ton of shiplap and never measured the corner angle first, I just use a level and a spacer block and it works out fine. Honestly, pulling the boards off and re-cutting sounds like overkill when you could've just ripped the last board down to size and painted the seam. Shiplap is supposed to look rustic anyway, a little gap on the end adds character. You probably spent all that time fixing something nobody would've noticed unless they put a square right up against the baseboard. Maybe next time grab some trim to cover the corner and save yourself the headache.
