Can we stop telling new guys to buy a worm drive as their only saw?
Every foreman I have worked under in the last 8 years tells the new kid to go grab a worm drive before anything else, and I think that advice is backwards for 90 percent of the work we actually do. I frame decks and do punch list stuff around Roanoke, and my little 7 1/4 sidewinder with a Diablo blade has cut every 2x10 and 4x4 I have thrown at it, while the worm drive sits in the truck because it weighs 14 pounds and my shoulder hates me by 3pm. Last month I watched a helper lug a Skilsaw up a ladder for a tiny trim cut and nearly go over backwards, and nobody said a word. If you are doing production framing all day, fine, get the worm drive, but most of us are not. What saw do you actually reach for on a normal Tuesday?
