From my side gig building kennels, I'm convinced that overbuilding is a waste of time and materials.

Everyone insists on heavy-duty frames for everything, but for most home projects, lighter construction is perfectly fine and saves resources.

I built a kennel for a friend's mastiff last summer. The door frame took the most stress from the dog pushing against it. A lighter frame would have warped in a month, so that's one spot where overbuilding is just good sense. It prevents callbacks and rebuilds later on.

Use a cross brace on that door frame. It'll keep it square under pressure for years.
