I finally gave that new Japanese pull saw a real shot on a maple cabinet job

Always thought they were too light for real work, but cutting some tricky joinery on a 3/4 inch thick piece, the thing just zipped through with zero tear-out. My old back saw would have needed a lot more muscle and left a rougher edge. Anyone else switch to pull saws for fine work and stick with them?

Picked up a Japanese saw a few years back and never looked back. Cut some really tight dovetails in cherry with it and the waste practically fell out clean. My old western saw always wanted to wander off the line no matter how careful I was. The pull action just feels more natural to me, like I have better control of the cut. Only bummer is I snapped a blade cutting into a hidden nail once...

That "zero tear-out" part is exactly why my shop teacher swore by them for dovetails.

My shop teacher's dovetails looked great, mine looked like a beaver chewed them.
