My first crown molding job made me ditch the coped corner method

I was up in a master bedroom in Naperville trying to cope an inside corner, spent 40 minutes fussing with it, and then the piece split right in the mitre saw. My foreman walked over and said 'just cut both at 45 and scribe the back,' and after that basic trick, I finished the whole room in under two hours. Anyone else find cope joints not worth the hassle for painted trim?

Honestly, the first time I tried coping, I ended up with a gap so wide I could fit a quarter in it. My old boss saw me about to chuck the saw across the room and just laughed, said 'watch this,' and knocked out the cut in like 30 seconds. Tbh, I still mess with cope joints when the corner is really off, but for standard painted baseboards, I'm with you, just miter it and move on. The caulk and paint will hide a lot of sins, and nobody's staring at the corner of your bedroom with a flashlight. Ngl, I've even gotten lazy and just used a piece of scrap to trace the profile onto the back of the trim, that works too when you're in a rush.
