My table saw fence failed mid-cut and almost took my hand off

Honestly, I was ripping some oak boards yesterday in my shop near Portland and the locking mechanism on my fence just slipped. The board kicked back hard, and I had to jump out of the way real fast. I checked the fence track and found a big buildup of sawdust and resin that was preventing it from gripping. Has anyone else had a fence latch fail on them like this without warning?

Clean your fence track regularly with denatured alcohol, I learned that lesson the hard way too.

Yeah, @sandra693, I gotta admit I used to think denatured alcohol was overkill. I was one of those people who just used water and maybe a little dish soap. But after I had to replace a whole section of track last year because it was so gummed up, I 100% changed my mind. Youre right that it cuts through the waxy buildup way better than anything else, especially if you use it with a old toothbrush. I kick myself for not listening sooner.
