Switched from a speed square to a folding layout square and my stair stringers stopped fighting me
Spent a Saturday last month cutting stringers for a deck in Norman and the first set came out off by about 3/16 at the bottom. Tried a folding square my buddy lent me on the second set and it was dead on the first try, mostly because I could set the rise and run and lock it instead of eyeballing with the speed square. I've been using that cheap aluminum square for 6 years and never thought it was the problem. What do you all use for stringers, and do you trust the little stair buttons or just lay it out by hand?
