The apprentice who sanded his own fingerprints off
Last month we had a kid from the local trade school come through for a 2 week trial. Second day he spent 6 hours straight on a belt sander with no gloves on, refinishing a walnut table we'd quoted at $1,800. By Thursday his fingertips were raw and bleeding, and he still kept going until I made him stop. I get wanting to prove yourself, but some folks treat blisters like a badge of honor instead of a warning sign. Now I make every new guy start with hand sanding and a mandatory glove rule, no exceptions. Has anyone else dealt with a greenhorn who thinks pain equals progress?
