Unpopular take: skip the spirit level on door frames

Everyone on my crew raves about laser levels for hanging doors, but I've been doing it with a 4 foot straight edge and a plumb bob for 20 years. Last month on a custom install in Austin, the laser kept drifting from the battery heat and I finished the job in 2 hours using just my old method. The customer inspected it and said 'that's the tightest reveal I've seen in 30 years' and I didn't even own a level at that point. Has anyone else ditched modern tools and gone back to basics, or am I just too cheap to buy new gear?

Did you notice any difference in how square the door sat after a week of settling? That's what got me to put down my laser too.
