Went to a historic theater renovation and noticed all the crown molding was done wrong

Last weekend I got to tour this old theater downtown that's being restored. Place was built in 1928. The new crew had already finished the crown molding in the main lobby and I spotted three corners where the cope joint was totally off. Like you could fit a pencil in the gap. The foreman said they'd caulk it later. I wanted to say something but I'm not on that crew. Has anyone else walked into a job site and seen something that just made you cringe?

Caulk fixes everything" - yeah, until it cracks and looks worse than the gap.

Caulk fixes everything, acting like perfect woodwork matters in a hundred year old building is just snobbery.
