Hit 1,500 yards of carpet seamed this morning without a single callback
I was just counting up my jobs from this year and realized I've seamed about 1,500 yards of carpet so far. That number surprised me because I'm just a one-man crew working out of a van in Des Moines. I've had maybe 3 seam splits in 10 years, but this stretch feels different. It made me think about how much practice with a good seaming iron and proper tape matters. Any of you guys keep track of your yardage numbers over the years?

Three years ago I would've said yardage didn't matter much. I figured if you knew how to melt tape and stretch, you were fine. But last winter I had a bad run. Two splits in four months on jobs I was proud of. Got me real careful about tracking. Now I log every room and check my iron temp with an infrared gun. That 1,500 number is serious man. It means your hands know the heat better than your brain does.

Man @harris.uma is SPOT ON about the 1,500 number. I used to think it was just some bragging right too until I hit that myself and realized my whole workflow changed. It's like the iron becomes an extension of your arm, you just KNOW when it's right without looking.
