Just realized you can use a heat gun gently on trampoline seams to soften the glue before stretching new carpet tight

Had a tough hallway install in Pittsburgh last week where the old seems were rock hard, and after 20 minutes of fighting I grabbed my heat gun on low and it loosened right up, saved me from cutting a new seam and patching in a scrap piece, has anyone else tried this on old glue that won't soften with just a knee kicker?

That "rock hard" phrase hit home. My buddy in Ohio tried it on a rec room job last fall and said the heat gun was the only thing that saved him from a full rip out.

168 degrees on the heat gun is the sweet spot for that old linoleum glue. I actually drove up to Cleveland last spring to help a buddy with the same exact problem. That heat gun trick works but you gotta move fast or the glue cools and gets tacky again. He was so close to just ripping it all out but we kept at it with the scraper and heat. Took twice as long but saved him from a full floor tear up.
