My mentor told me to stop tucking carpet into the tack strip by hand, and I owe him a coffee
I was talking with a guy who has been laying carpet for 22 years in Tulsa, and he asked why I still tuck by hand on every job. I told him that is how my old crew did it, and he just laughed and handed me his knee kicker with a modified head. He said a proper stair tool plus that kicker saves him about 45 minutes on a 12 by 15 room, and I did not believe him. So I tried it on a rental turnover near 21st and Garnett and finished the whole room in under an hour. My knees feel better too, which matters more at my age. Has anyone else switched from hand tucking to a tool like that?
