Noticed my Seam Roller technique changed after 15 years in the trade
I was looking at some old photos of jobs I did back in 2009 and man, the seams on those carpets look rough compared to what I do now. Back then I used to just roll the seam once and call it good, figured the glue would hold. Over time I started going over each seam three or four times with a heavy roller, plus I wait longer for the tape to tack up. The biggest shift came about 5 years ago when I switched to a metal roller instead of the plastic ones. Has anyone else gone back and noticed their older work looked sloppy compared to today?

Wait, you used a plastic roller for 15 years? That's wild to me. I borrowed a buddy's plastic one once and it felt like I was just pushing the seam around instead of actually setting it. Metal roller is the only way to go, that weight makes a huge difference on the tack point.

Ngl I still use plastic rollers on half my jobs and never had a callback about seams. Metal ones can actually mash the backing too hard on certain carpets if you're not careful.
