I had a roll of that seam tape sitting in my closet for two years before I finally caved and ordered the good stuff. My buddy tried using a heat gun on the cheaper alternative and it bubbled up so bad he had to peel the whole seam and start over. That kind of headache is exactly why I gave in, even at 40 bucks a roll.

Notice how we all learn this same lesson over and over but only after wasting time and money on the cheaper option first. It feels like there is always that one tool or supply you fight against buying until it finally proves itself necessary. Are there other areas where paying more upfront actually saves you from bigger headaches down the road?

Forty bucks a roll sounds about right for the good stuff, I finally bit the bullet on a proper seam roller last month after fighting with a cheap plastic one that left everything uneven. Spent twenty five dollars on a metal one from a local sewing shop and now my seams actually lay flat without me having to redo them three times. I swear, I could write a book about all the cheap tools I bought twice before just spending real money on the right one the first time.
