Saw three guys last month install carpet with no knee kicker, just a hammer and a dream
I was doing a rental turnover in Phoenix last month and the property manager hired a crew to do the bedrooms before I got there for the stairs and hall. I walked in and these three guys had a hammer, a staple gun, and not one knee kicker between them. They were stretching carpet by hand and just hammering the tack strip down harder when it pulled loose. I watched one of them try to power stretch a corner by leaning back on his heels like he was water skiing. Two days later the PM called me back because the seams were already waving in the doorway. I re-stretched the whole thing in about 90 minutes with my kicker and a power stretcher. Has anyone else seen this trend of new guys skipping the basic tools and just winging it?
Seen the same thing with guys skipping tools all over lately, not just carpet, like they think watching a few videos is the same as learning the trade. Had a kid show up to help me lay tile once with no spacers or level and just eyeballed the whole floor, which lasted about a week before the grout started cracking. Shortcuts always catch up with you and the person who pays for it is the one who hired the cheap crew.
