That time a messy job in Phoenix taught me to always double check the tack strip

I was working a big house out in Phoenix about 3 months ago and the customer had this super thick berber carpet. I put the tack strip down like always but after a day the whole section around a doorway started bubbling up. Turned out the concrete slab had a tiny high spot I missed and the strip wasn't seated flat. Has anyone else run into trouble with tack strips on uneven slabs?

Went back and read that twice. Didn't catch a high spot on a slab? That's a pretty big miss, man.

Happened to me once on a job in Tennessee. We were setting a big retaining wall block and I swore it was level. Turned out there was a dime-sized high spot right in the middle. Lesson learned, now I always sweep twice and check with my hand before the mud goes down.
