The day my seam iron died on a big hallway job in Cleveland

I was about halfway through seaming a 40 foot hallway in a Cleveland remodel last month when my iron just stopped heating up. The handle was warm but the base plate went cold, no warning at all. I had a helper holding the carpet down and we were both staring at a half sealed seam that was starting to curl. I ended up using a heat gun from my truck and a flat trowel to press the tape down, which was sketchy but actually worked well enough to finish before the homeowner got home. Took me an extra 45 minutes but the seam laid flat and passed the stretch test the next day. Since then I bought a backup iron and keep it in the van at all times. Has anyone else had an iron fail mid job and what did you do to save the seam in the moment?
