TIL a client's old tack strip can wreck a brand new knife blade in 2 cuts

Was doing a tear out last Tuesday in a 1980s split level. Everything looked normal until I started cutting the old carpet back. Hit a tack strip that had some kind of hardened glue or maybe rust all over the nails. Ruined my favorite utility blade on the second pull. Had to stop and swap it out. Anyone else run into tack strips that seem to eat knives for breakfast?

wonder if the old glue had metal shavings in it from previous staple gun use that hardened onto the nails.

Wait, hold on. Are you telling me the glue had actual METAL in it? That's insane. I've seen tack strips with rusted nails that chew up blades sure, but metal in the glue? That's a whole different level of nightmare. Did it sound like grinding when you hit it? I've had glue that was rock hard before but never like that. Man, I would have been so mad if that happened to my favorite blade.
