Black beans went from sad to solid after I added one thing

I always made canned black beans with just salt and pepper, and they tasted like nothing. Last week I threw in a spoonful of cumin and a squirt of lime juice while they were heating up, and it turned a $1.50 meal into something I actually looked forward to. Anyone else got a cheap spice trick that levels up basic stuff?

Had a buddy who swore by tossing a pinch of smoked paprika into his lentil soup. Said it made the whole pot taste like it simmered all day when it only took ten minutes.

Love that cumin and lime combo, it really wakes up plain beans. Your buddy with the smoked paprika is onto something too, I tried that in my chili last week and it added a whole new layer of warmth.
