Can we talk about the moment I found out I was wasting half my rice?
I was cooking a $4 bag of rice in a big pot of water for 20 minutes like pasta, then dumping the cloudy water down the sink (which I now know was throwing away most of the vitamins). Last Tuesday my neighbor came over while I was draining it and asked why I was pouring out the good stuff, since rice only needs water up to your first knuckle and a lid on low for 15 minutes. How many other cheap staples am I cooking the wrong way without even knowing it?
