Got laughed at for buying bulk lentils in Spokane last month

I was at the WinCo bulk bins in Spokane filling a bag with 5 pounds of lentils when the cashier joked that I must be feeding a farm. Two weeks later my pantry is still stocked and I've made 8 meals for under six bucks total. Anyone else get weird looks for buying dry beans in bulk but stick with it anyway?

Oh honey, those are definitely not lentils if you fed eight people for six bucks.

Gotta push back a little here - lentils are actually pretty cheap if you buy them dry in bulk. A 2lb bag runs like $3-4 and makes a ton. Throw in some canned tomatoes, an onion, and basic spices and you could easily feed 8 people for under 6 bucks. My mom used to make lentil soup for our whole family of 5 and we'd have leftovers for days.
