My $50 a week grocery bill dropped to $30 after I started a meal swap with my neighbor

Last month my neighbor Fran mentioned she was tossing half her veggies before they went bad, so we started trading portions. Now I get fresh produce for three extra meals a week without spending a dime more. Has anyone else tried a food swap with people nearby?

My friend Carrie tried something similar after she saw a post like this. She lived next to a retired guy who grew way too many tomatoes in his garden. Every week he'd give her a bag of them and she'd hand over some of her extra eggs from her chickens. She said it saved her about $20 a month on groceries. The funny part was she started getting sick of tomatoes after a while. But she also learned to can them and make sauce, which she still does every summer now.
