My neighbor swore frozen veggies are a rip-off until I showed him my grocery bill

So my neighbor Dave, this guy who prides himself on being a budget food expert, told me last month that frozen vegetables are a waste of money because you pay for water weight. I didn't argue, just invited him over for dinner. I made a big pot of chili with a $2 bag of frozen mixed peppers and onions, plus a $1 bag of frozen corn. He was raving about how fresh everything tasted until I showed him the bags in my freezer. His jaw dropped when I told him I spent $3 total on veggies for that meal versus the $8 he would have spent on fresh ones. Now he's asking me for my freezer rotation plan. Anyone else deal with a friend who thinks fresh is always cheaper?

Oh man, I was totally on the other side of this argument for years. I used to think frozen veggies were just sad, watery versions of the real thing. But then my sister showed me her freezer full of bags she got on sale, and I had to eat my words. She made a stir fry with frozen broccoli and bell peppers that honestly tasted just as good as fresh. Now I'm a convert too, especially in winter when fresh stuff costs a fortune. It's wild how much cheaper it is once you actually compare the numbers.

Convincing Dave with the chili was the right move. Seeing is believing, right? My buddy Tom was the same way until I showed him my freezer full of frozen berries for smoothies that cost half what fresh ones do. He finally got it when I broke down the math for him and he realized the convenience factor alone was worth it. Now he stocks up during sales like the rest of us.
