Overheard a buddy say instant ramen is 'filler food' and I think he's missing the point

So I was at a cookout last Saturday and my friend Mike starts going on about how instant ramen is just empty calories and a waste of money if you add anything to it. He said if you throw an egg and some veggies in there you're 'ruining the whole point of it being cheap.' But honestly, that's exactly how I stretch my groceries. I buy the 24 pack for like $4 at the Asian mart near my house, drop a beaten egg in while it's boiling, toss in some frozen spinach and a squirt of sriracha. That's a full meal for maybe 50 cents. He acts like adding 20 cents of extras makes it not worth it. Has anyone else run into this whole 'you're doing it wrong' attitude about budget meals?

Dude exactly! I throw leftover chicken in mine with an egg and it's legit a solid dinner for dirt cheap.

Whoa hold on, I gotta push back on that a little. Leftover chicken and egg in ramen feels like it ruins the whole point of ramen for me lol. I'd rather just get a good cut of pork belly or something and do it right, because cheap chicken gets all dry and stringy in there. Plus the egg takes over the broth flavor if you're not careful, you end up with breakfast ramen instead of dinner.
