Rice cooker gave out mid-week but I saved $40 making congee on the stove

My cheap rice cooker died Tuesday night right after I dumped in the rice and water. Ended up making congee on the stove using the same ingredients, and honestly it stretched my grocery run three more days. Has anyone else turned a kitchen fail into a budget win by accident?

Wait, you got FIVE DAYS out of burrito bowls from fried rice leftovers? That's wild how far stuff can stretch if you just pivot instead of panicking. My congee saga ended up being a real budget saver too because I threw in some leftover chicken bones and veggie scraps I was gonna toss. Honestly, I think the stove method gives you more control over the texture anyway, especially if you like it thick and porridge-like. It's crazy how a broken appliance can force you to get creative and end up saving cash. I'm definitely gonna try making congee on purpose now instead of waiting for my rice cooker to die again.
