Saw my grocery bill drop from $140 to $80 a week after I started shopping the 7am markdown hour
I used to hit Kroger at 6pm on my way home from work and pay full price for everything like a chump. Then a stocker at the one off Vine St in Cincinnati mentioned they slap yellow stickers on meat and bakery stuff the second the store opens. So I started going at 7am on Sundays and my bill went from about $140 to $80 for the same stuff. The chicken thighs are usually half off and the bread is a buck. Anyone else have a magic hour at their store, or am I just lucky at this one location?
Sunday mornings at 7 are gold at my store too, but the trick is getting there before the other regulars. There's like four of us who all show up right at open and we basically split up the meat case between us. One thing nobody tells you is the markdown schedule isn't the same at every location, so it pays to ask a stocker or cashier what days they do their big pulls. My store does meat on Sunday and Wednesday, but bakery is every single morning. Also don't sleep on the day-old bread rack near the back, it's separate from the yellow sticker stuff up front and sometimes it's even cheaper.
