Serious question, why does everyone think bulk rice is the ultimate cheap food?

I gotta disagree with the crowd on this one. I tried the whole buy a 20 pound bag of rice approach from Costco six months ago, and honestly it bit me. After about three weeks, I got so bored of rice with every meal that I started ordering takeout twice a week, which blew my budget by 40 bucks. Meanwhile, my buddy swears by buying marked down produce at the local Aldi on Tuesday mornings, and he says his weekly grocery bill is only 25 bucks. Rice is fine for variety, but as a daily staple it made me spend more on junk to fix the boredom. Has anyone else found that the "cheapest" option backfired on their actual eating habits?

Burned out on rice myself. Cheap shortcuts bite back.

Wait, so you're telling me that eating the same boring white brick 3 times a day for 6 months didn't unlock some secret savings account? Ngl, I tried the bulk rice thing and ended up buying a bottle of sriracha for every meal just to trick myself into eating it. Then I started mixing in frozen veggies, and suddenly my "cheap" rice bowl cost 8 bucks a meal. Honestly, the only thing bulk rice saved me was my will to cook dinner.
