Sorta tired of people bragging about $2 meals that take 4 hours to make

I keep seeing these posts about 'cheap meals' that involve soaking dried beans overnight, then simmering them for 3 hours, plus making your own bread from scratch. Who has that kind of time on a Tuesday after work? My idea of a budget meal is a box of pasta for $1.29, a jar of sauce for $2, and maybe some frozen veggies for another dollar. That's under $5 total for 4 servings and it takes 20 minutes. Why do people act like cheaper means harder?

Yeah the frozen pizza the next day pretty much sums it up.

Had a buddy try one of those epic cheap meal recipes once. He soaked black beans overnight, spent Saturday afternoon making his own tortillas, then roasted some random vegetable he found on sale. After 4 hours he had like a single burrito that he said was "pretty good." Meanwhile I literally watched him eat a frozen pizza the next day because he was too burned out to cook again. Is it really saving money if you're spending your whole weekend on one meal?
