That tip about freezing leftover tomato paste actually works

I heard someone at the grocery store say they freeze tomato paste in teaspoon portions on wax paper and then pop them into a bag. I tried it last week with a can that cost $1.20 and now I have six little paste pucks ready for future recipes. Has anyone found a good way to freeze other common ingredients like canned coconut milk or buttermilk?

Six tablespoons is exactly what I freeze from a can of tomato paste (I use a mini muffin tin instead of wax paper, works like a charm). For coconut milk, I pour it into an ice cube tray and pop out two cubes for curries or smoothies whenever I need them. Buttermilk I freeze in quarter cup portions inside a ziplock bag laid flat, then I just crack off what a recipe calls for.

Oh nice, the muffin tin idea is genius for tomato paste.
